Would you live near a power transformer ?

Options
I am currently looking to buy a property that has a transformer in a field right next to the grounds of the property that I am looking at.

You can see it in the distance but it is right next door just a bit further down. Would this put anyone off because it does put me off a bit.
Nice to save.

I wouldn't personally, although I know it doesn't bother some people. Just remember it might make it difficult to sell, is that really the only nice property for the money? Is it unique in any way? Because, if there was a similar property a few streets away I would buy that instead, even if it was a bit more expensive.
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.

I agree, if you can buy somewhere else within your budget then do so - transformers and pylons no thanks!

Not me, although I might look to get it cheaper with this as an excuse.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

I wouldn't personally & even if I didn't mind for myself I'd always worry about the knowledge that the house would be more difficult to sell should I ever want to move.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I would. I knew two people who died of cancer aged about 50 with one of these in the back garden. I have no idea whether the cancer was linked to the transformer, it may just have been a strange coincidence but nothing on earth would persuede me to live in that house... ok, if I had nowhere else to go, of course I would.

I would not buy a house like this under any circumstances.

Perosnally I'm afraid of the potential health implications, so wouldn't touch it with a bargepole anyway.

But as others have said, selling it again could also be a problem....

A friend had an electricity pole in the field behind his house - not a high voltage pylon, but the sort of poles carrying electricity cables that you see in country areas.

It took him over a year to find a buyer, at the height of the property frenzy. The house was well priced, but everyone who came said they loved the house but the 'pylon' was a problem. When he did eventually get a buyer, it was a BTL landlord.... who took four months to find funding, having said he was a cash buyer, and then on the day they were supposed to exchange insisted on knocking another £10k off the price.

From offer to completion was almost SIX MONTHS. In all that time the EA continued to market the house but they never got another buyer.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

We looked at buying a similar house once, but talked to the neighbours first. The people at one side thought we maybe shouldn't ask the other neighbours about it as their 8 year old son - born in the house - had recently been diagnosed with cancer...

I wouldn't buy it, years down the line what if someone got an illness, you'd always blame yourself, whether it was conected or not.

Buy an EMF tester and check out if it affects the property.

I almost put an offer on a property where a transformer was hidden by lots and lots of shrubbery .. It was only as I walked to the very top of the garden on my second viewing that I was suddenly aware of that horrible humming sound.

I would never live near a transformer or pylons or mobile phone masts.
