Crystal Palace Transmitter

My sister lives near Romford, and on Saturday night she lost BBC1,2,3 from her PVR. She has tried switching off and rescanning, but they have disappeared from the epg. The other digibox on her daughter's tv has also lost them! The analogue tv in the spare room does still get BBC.
She phoned the helpline for her pvr, and they said (and apparently this is what they have been told to tell everyone) is that she needs a new aerial. Admittedly her aerial is quite old, but before she spends a lot of time and money, can anyone suggest a cheaper solution for her, please?
For example, is there work being carried out on the Crystal Palace transmitter that hasn't come up on searches or on the BBC website. She lives for Wimbledon fortnight, and usually tapes it to watch after work, so this is SO the wrong time.
