I didn't ask Sky to pay the fee, I had it waived by BT. See the link someone posted further up.

I applied for Sky online (you get a better deal), but it didn't recognise my address as it's a new build, so I called an advisor. Make sure to tell them all the deals you were getting online as they can then add those - but won't if you don't ask. When I called to book I just told him I was moving into a house and wanted to join sky. Nobody ever discussed if I was an existing customer - if he'd asked I would have said no.

Even in the worst situation if your OH will have to pay the same, it is worth to cancel old contracts and sign up via cashback sites.
Could be hundreds for you: gas, electricity, Sky, internet, insurance,...

jinglebell, i could threaten to cancel, but if they agree to me cancelling, i have no other alterntive. The only other phone provider i know of is virgin, but they have not laid their cables at the new home yet.
I don't have a landline for a couple of years and am not missing it at all.
Sat. TV, mobile phone and mobile broadband will do the trick for most people.

    Hey all,

just wanted to update you guys,
i rang BT this afternoon, Went to the moving home team.

I told the guy on the phone that i have booked an appointment to get a transfer and was told it would be a 122.50 charge. Then i told him that a friend received a letter about BT waving the fee for new connections and that i want it since mine is a brand new connection.

He said something about needing to check if i qualify, went away for about 30sec and came back saying i did!

Cancelled my first order and re booked for 3 weeks from today. Worth the wait for 120 odd quid!!!

Now to cancel with sky and reapply!

I've had a similar thing recently - I joined Tiscali this year, however we're moving so I phoned them to ask them to transfer the service. They said they were unable to, but that because this was their fault I could cancel free of charge and set up a new account at the other end.

That's another lot of quidco for us then! Smashing!

I agree: I have Freeview, a £12 a month mobile phone contract plus mobile broadband £15 for 15GB. I don't miss the landline at all: I have unlimited calls to landlines so my family ring or text and I phone them right back.

I am moving shortly to a house with a disconnected telephone line.
B.T. wanted me to take out an 18 month contract just to connect same.
I went to the Post Office & they connected me free of charge without any contract!!!!
Thanks B.T., why should I have to haggle for a public service?
It is really ridiculous that we must shop around to seek out normal decent service, I don't mind doing this looking for bargains.

Do you find the 15GB download limit causes you any problems? How often do you use the internet? I was considering this but my boyfriend thinks it wouldn't be enough.
