Throughly recommend this too if you are in crete...however be warned it's hard work for a light stroll. OH and I aren't trekkers, just dog walkers. this walk took us around 6 hours; once you start, you can't stop as only option is to just keep going. We ached for 3 days after the walk...couldn't even bend our knees to go down steps the day after.

loved crete and my travelling companions loved the samaria gorge walk - but agree with the previous poster about aches!

  • Crete is a lovely island. The walk down the Samaria Gorge is a wonderful experience. You need a pair of shoes that are comfortable for walking. Best done during a fortnight's holiday to get over the aches and pains, unless you are very fit like experienced hill walkers or skiers. Still worth doing.

The journey from Heraklion to Chania is much quicker since they built the "motorway"!

Chania is a nice place but agree with shammyjack.
