Crete Holiday

Hi,

The passports have arrived and have been scanning the net all week!

Decided against Gran Canaries as I don't know where to go there, so am now looking at Crete and possibly Chania. I have never been to Crete before and am hoping I have picked the place to go in Chania. I am looking for relaxing, clean, friendly place, with lovely scenery, beach and greenery. I like harbours and the ambience of the promenade, going for walks along the prom etc..

I have been on tripadvisor and have had a look at their top hotels in Chania and am trusting these are honest reviews and looking to book somewhere fast!!

Looking to go around 13th April for 1 week, dates can be changed up to 1 week after. Going from Manchester/Liverpool airport and am looking for 4*/5* for 2 people, I would love a nice pool and good food. Any ideas would be welcome thanks, or it will be rainy Uk for me and partner.

http://www.holidayhotels.co.uk/hotel.php?HID=20031104105840937251 take a look at that.
The rooms that you can see that have a shared semi private pool on HB is Garden Deluxe/Pool (2-3) Sea Front View HB
£647.12 for both of you then you need to add flights and transferes.
Flights to Chania dont start till early May but there is a flight to HER then you could get a taxi or pre book a transfer
priced up on Tue 18th from Manchester (if you can do 25th its £50pp cheaper)
    £367.80 for flights
because most airlines havnt started flying there yet it will keep the price up
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

I've been to Crete but it was 20 years ago. It's a big Island and Herikalon (please excuse spelling - as I said it was 20 years ago) is not near Chania. We stayed at Hersonissos (near Herikalon) and took a car to Rethyamon (near Chania) and it took us at least a good couple of hours to get there and that was on a good main road. I would find out how much a transfer or a taxi from the airport would cost before booking your holiday.

Just looked https://www.thomascook.co.uk ave some 4* packages to the Hermes in Ag Nik for about 250pp its not the prettiest of hotel but its only a very short walk to the Marina which is lovely. I dont know what the hotels like though you would have to check the reviews we walked past it every night on the way to Ag Nik and it looked ok.
    HER-CHANIA
Friends of ours do the journey each year its about £56 each way for a taxi but some places like holidaytaxis offer low season disounts

Stayed in Rethymnon a few years ao and loved it.

About an hour on the local bus from Herikalon to rethymnon.

We stayed in the hotel fortezza...situated in the old town, swimming pool, large rooms, good price in august too.

5 years ago to the Louis Creta Princess which is near Chania. It was off a good standard, it was all inclusive and the pool was excellent. Make sure you fly into Chania and not Heraklion though.

I love Kreta , but why oh why does everybody go to the touristy, tacky north coast resorts ?

Cross the White Mountains to the southern coast on the Lybian Sea and you get peace , tranquility and a real "Kretan" experiance.

    My favourite location is Paleochora

Cheap , laidback, friendly and awesome scenery !

Take the early morning bus to the head of Samaria Gorge , walk down it to the sea and get the water taxi back to Paleochora harbour . The experiance of a lifetime !

    Enjoy !
