There are many phones that are exclusive to networks, it's just that the iPhone is most popular. I saw an advert for a phone exclusive to Orange today, so there's no difference.0

If you request an unlock for the iPhone from O2 it will never be given even if you're not in a contract. Apple have decided to make the SIM lock permanent unless an unlock is mandated by law, which I don't think it is in the UK.0
