Vodaphone Passport Warning new customers

Just received my new phone from Vodaphone. Asked the guy about opting into Passport as I am going away for three weeks July and August.

Yes, you are automatically included he said, as does the paperwork. Rang to check a few things with them the other day only to be informed, because they do not know anything about my credit history as a new customer, I will have to pay them £150 before I use my phone abroad, which they will keep for three months before giving it back to me.

I dread to think what would have happened if I'd just gone ahead and used it!

Just received the paperwork about my contract and there is instructions how to set up passport on your phone, as a contract customer. Followed these instructions and am awaiting their reply!

Will let you know the outcome as soon as

This is surely a farce. Their promotion is that the connection fee has been abolished for the summer. Also more networks abroad can be used on Passport. So the chances of running up a large roaming bill are much reduced or even negligible, and this deposit seems pointless. I'd try discussing it with them again.

Hmm does this apply to me? I have one of the sim only rolling monthly 30 day contracts and have had for about 4 months now. I already have passport on my account but have not been overseas with my phone yet,

I don't understand how they are saying this as Passport Roaming works on PAYG

Sounds normal to me, You have to pay a deposit to use roaming.

What about me (see my post above) I am not exactly a new customer so I assume I have passed these checks. Can I roam?
