Just noticed if you go through Autotrader there is an offer that you can get your MOT for £27 at a Nationwide Autocentre.

Thanks debtaghh, but in my experience it'll cost more than that. Twice in the past I've gone to one of these garage chains and both times my car has failed on everything they happen to specialise in. Being annoyed, I've gone elsewhere and my car's failed on something else entirely, or passed.
I just think I'd end up spending a lot more in the long run on parts I don't need.
Cheers.0 -
I'd give it a miss, personally. They always find fault. And funnily enough, they are always the kind of things that they specialise in fixing. There are plenty of moans about them on the motoring board.0

As has already been said, don't take your car anywhere near Nationwide Autocentres. They will lie and exaggerate in order to get you to hand over ridiculous amounts of money for work that doesn't need doing. Trust me, I've known many people in the motor trade over the years, and their verdict on Nationwide has been unanimous.0

yep, mine needed a wiper blade replaced last year, one blade cost me £17! Taking it back up to the normal MOT price and a wee bit more. I'd personally take it to a local garage.0

My friend did this and it passed with nothing wrong on a 10 year old car, I did mine at Kwik Fit and mine passed aswell.
Wasn't what I was expecting and we're both quite happy

The problem is though that the conditions of the offer are that you have anything that needs fixing to get it through the test fixed there.... at their prices. I would prefer to have an MOT centre that does the test and free retest so that you can take it away and get the things fixed wherever you like - and some things you can do yourself anyway.0

I see what you all mean and suppose it is down to luck. I did my MOT last year with Nationwide autocentre using Tesco vouchers and my 8 year old car passed 1st time and all they replaced was a bulb which cost about a £1.0

My local one was told me my car would fail the MOT because it had a slight scuff on the seatbelt. No fraying, no holes etc... just a slight mark where I had shut it in the door.
I took it to my usual MOT chap who only does MOTs and he was appalled. Told me no way would it fail for such a slight scuff mark.
I only ever went to there because I used to use my Tesco Clubcard vouchers - I feel once they knew this they would find something else to worry me with.0 -
Would avoid, I have a very bad experience with them!0
