    thanks for everyones input -

but really what i was trying to establish was , after the six months and NI based jsa has run out and getting nothing what will the dwp allow me to spend out of my own money for living expences - i could blow the lot just like that if i wanted to after all it is my money , but i dont think they`d ware that somehow -
and i am not the only one in this position who have life savings for maybe their retirement but have found that their working life has been cut short through no fault of their own - how long would i be expected to live on it till it runs out or down to a level i can claim benefits ie £16k -
will i have to live on it as if it were benefits -

Yes, you will. I'm in the same boat.

Note to self: Next time SPEND all your money, dont bother saving for the future.. Atleast then your tax money will be spent on YOU, rather than all the people who didnt bother saving, or doesnt bother working.

you have 30k in savings and still want to get JSA.... lol
use your savings man, thats what there there for, raining days etc....
you wont get a penny from JSA with that amount.;)

No thats is not what bloody savings are for!!!
    Imagine the conversation:
    -What are you saving for?
-I m saving o make sure that when I'm unemployed, I don't claim JSA cause I enjoy paying tax for no reason!

This makes me so angry, as far as we know the OP hasn't just won the money but has worked his/her a**e off to save.

As others have said, never save, just spend, be unprepared, have babies at 15, you ll get a free flat, council tax paid........ oops getting a bit carried away here

  • Yes, mine ran out last month and like yourself I am over the £16k threshold. You will still be required to sign on every 2 weeks but you will get your NI contribution paid all £2-40/wk of it. You will now be assigned a personal advisor to help your job search and will be required to sign on weekly for 6 weeks. Good luck with the job search its pretty dismal out there at present. The sun shining takes a little of the depression away

If they are not "paying out any money" can you be a little bit more fussy on what job you want or do you have to be seen to be going for everything?

  • hi derek -

things are pretty grim - bit like a finacial tsunarmi where the sea or money in this case has disapeared -
but when this is all over are we going to get a great flood of money - "yipee" -
no but , joking apart - if they have stopped your jsa what do you live on , or the dwp allow you to live on -
