bit new to this so hi everybody -
was made redundant 5 months ago and been getting jsa contribution based allowance - this will stop after 182 days i believe -
i have not been able to get any rent rebate from the council as i have £30k+ in savings -
so it looks like that after 6 months i will still be out of work and get nothing as i exceed the £16k threshold for allowances -

my question is - if still out of work after 6 months and with the amount mentioned in savings and get nothing , will i still be required to sign on
and am i supposed to live on it as if it were benefits till they click in - as i am single this could take a long time -
dose any one know what the dwp criteria is in this situation -

would love to hear any advice -

thx -

I think it's a case of you need to sign on still to get your national insurance stamp paid.

Unfortunately, as you have been a good boy and saved your hard earned money, you will not be entitled to any of your taxes back after 6 months, absolutely stupid if you ask me - the ones that try to save gets nothing, while people who spend all their money are entitled to JSA NI based (not much, I agree, but). Once you have spent your hard earned cash and get below 16k you will start to receive (not the full amount) JSA NI based - but lets hope you get a job before you get to that stage.

As that your question about signing on.. I think if you keep signing on (although you dont get anything) your NI payment will be covered by the state, which might come in handy when you retire, etc.

Remember also, once your JSA stops, you will dissappear from the unemployed figures so if there was 200,000 people paid off in the country around the same time you were, jobless figures will drop by 200,000 that month.

This cant be right? assuming you still sign on to get your NI paid, but dont receive any JSA due to your savings? You are still unemployed and should come up on the unemployment figures. But I know what you mean, there must be hundreds of thousands who dont bother signing on (because of the rubbish JSA paid in this country), yet are unemployed?

This will not be the case should the claimant continue to sign for credits only.

scope, when you refer to NI based JSA, I think you mean income based. NI based JSA is what the OP has claimed for the past six months.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Do people on Income Support show up on the jobless figures? What do you go onto after JSA?

If you have contributions based JSA and that is coming to an end, you will need to register for income-based JSA (actually this is the same amount that you get for contributions based), ask them about the form you need to fill in the next time you sign on (it will be a biggish form like a long book).
  • thanks for everyones input -

but really what i was trying to establish was , after the six months and NI based jsa has run out and getting nothing what will the dwp allow me to spend out of my own money for living expences - i could blow the lot just like that if i wanted to after all it is my money , but i dont think they`d ware that somehow -
and i am not the only one in this position who have life savings for maybe their retirement but have found that their working life has been cut short through no fault of their own - how long would i be expected to live on it till it runs out or down to a level i can claim benefits ie £16k -
will i have to live on it as if it were benefits -
