What would the children prefer, him sending a couple of quid a month or saving it up so he can come visit them? Some people

Just as a matter of interest, you say that you've been split for 6 years. How has he visited the children in the past? What arrangements did you make on those occasions? Can he not do similar again?

You also mentioned that the x-change rate is really bad but I wondered what you were comparing it too as it seems 'okay' to me (neither massively up or down).

Me and the kids would love a month in Australia, trip of a lifetime for most people, I think I'll pack my job in!!
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

    Some people?

This guy has never contributed to his kids.
    Never sent any maitenance.
Now he is coming over ot he UK to stay rent free.
Since the OP is claiming benefits its not "her" paying for this free visit, its the tax payer as she gets her rent and living costs met by the tax payer.

So not only is the state supporting his children. We are now supporting him for a visit.

    Some people indeed!

This board isn't for discussion, nor is it for people to get advice on how to "get away" with fraud.

The OPs post reads to me as "I want to do this, but don't want to tell the benefits people; how can I do this?"

For me that's as much abuse as the "Daily mail" style comments, if not more so.

OP, do what you want to do for your kids etc but don't expect advice on how to cheat

Your friend is very lucky to be able to afford to go to Australia when she is on income support, I thought that was to help those in real need!

People on means tested benefit are entitled to savings of £6000.00 without it affecting their benefit. They are entitled to £16000.00 before it wipes out all entitlement to means tested benefits. She may well have had savings before going on Income Support.

In regard to your ex staying over, I do think the benefits agency will take an interest in it, but far better to be upfront about it, and get it over and done with. If you are not upfront, then they will take an even bigger interest in it if they find out, which will not only affect your IS but also housing benefit and council tax benefit if they think you are trying to hide something.
