Hair product causes damage to furniture

It's not a new problem - remember those pieces of embroidered white cloth your Nan had over the back of the sofa and the armchairs? They were to stop hair products staining.0

I did not realise they had Soul Glo in those days0

Ive used surf style on my hair for years(aswell as manga style and switch) and have never had a problem of it coming off my hair. Are you sure your thinking of the right product? surf style isnt very sticky and i dont see it being dectructive to something as strong as leather. It holds hair but my hair feels like it hasnt any gel in when i use surf style. I'm absolutely baffled at how it has ruined your sofa.
However, Im not here to dispute your story. You could try and write a letter but I doubt it will go anywhere. Hair styling products are for your hair and not your sofa so I conclude(and im sure garnier will too) that you are at fault. If you poured bleach on your sofa and it ruined it, the bleach manufacturer wouldnt pay out either.0 -
Take the product to a friendly chemists, see what he says?0

Urgh, if it does that to your sofa, imagine what it may be doing to your scalp... :eek:I used one of their gels once and how can I put this delicately? It reminded me of...er...something else , and was so sticky that i've not used it since.:rotfl:0 -
Bookworm very funny...when I saw you had posted I assumed you would have answered the posters questions on consumer rights, it being your thing....lol
Do you have any practical advice?0 -
Too many variables, tbh. It's certainly worth reporting to the company, as if they start getting lots of similar issues, they might then pull the product... But the first thing that popped into my head (ok, second, lol) was: "are you sure it is leather?" because I really can't think of anything that powerful that it would ruin leather and yet not damage the scalp/hair. There could also be a combination of what has been used previously to clean/treat the leather reacting with the product, etc, etc... Consumer rights is one thing, basic chemistry another, I'm afraid.
OP is on a non-starter on this one, IMO, unless Garnier decides to chip on a goodwill gesture, and I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.0
