Hair product causes damage to furniture

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place to come for this query but here goes... recently I switched to a new hair styling product from a well known brand always advertising on TV. Having worn this lately, instead of a previous product from another company, I noticed it leaving a small residue on the back seat (where your head would be on occasion) of the leather sofa we have at home. Having cleaned this off with a clean, new, soft cellulose cloth and cool water, it appeared to have stuck to the sofa somehow and on removal has peeled off a layer of it, leaving behind an unsightly mess on a once excellent condition leather sofa
Do I have any grounds for complaint with the manufacturer on this, in respect of the damage caused?
If they won't play ball then what options do I have/what route should I go to take this down any suitable legal avenue please?
Thanks in advance all...

I am intrigued as to what it is ... and how much you used so as to enable it to rub off on the furniture?!Gone ... or have I?0

I think minnie123 was right0

That is not the manufactures fault, if the product damaged your hair, or your head then maybe - but as it is you who has damaged your sofa - i would guess that the manufacture is not to blame. did they have a caution on the lable - as jeans normally say that the colour can rub off onto other surfaces.....:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

Why are people always so secretive when they have a gripe??
high street this, well known that yada yada. !!!!!!, throw us a bone, how can we know what to avoid or advise on our experiences when it is a big secret??0 -
Sorry guys, assumed maybe there was some issue with me "naming and shaming". The product in question is a Garnier Fructis hair putty, to be absolutely specific "Garnier Fructis Style Surf Hair". As for how much I put on for it to come off on the sofa, I put on the amount directed on the labelling, " a small amount", applied to dry hair as it also indicates. It naturally has come off my hair when I have sat on the sofa and my head has touched the back seat of it.
As for cautions on the labelling about its effect on other surfaces, no, nothing on there whatsoever. Furthermore, is it not to be expected that a hair styling product could/would end up on other surfaces your head might come into contact with - beds, pillows, car seat upholstery, cushions, sofas? Why pay more for the same?0 -
Garnier Fructis Soul Glo... lol
As there is no caution on the packet, it could be worth writing a polite concise letter explaining the problems and advising them how much the cost is to make good the damage (Be fair with the cost eg you cannot expect them to pay for a complete new suite).
There is a reasonable chance with a company of Garniers size and reputation that they may pay some or all of it, failing that try writing to BBC Watchdog as they like unusual stories like this0 -
Are hair products supposed to be furniture friendly? Hmmmmm0
