Putting a car seat in the hold of an easyjet flight

Having been suitably horrified by the cost of hiring a car seatin Portugal I have been trying to see if you can take a car seat on the flight without incurring a charge.
Does anyone know if Easyjet will allow me to put a car seat in the hold without charging me extra?

We will accept a car seat supplied by the accompanying person for any child over six months for whom an airline seat has been purchased, provided that the car seat has a rigid metal or plastic frame, is no wider than 42cm, includes lap, shoulder and crotch straps, and is upright and forward facing – visit our Carrier’s Regulations for more information on car seats.

you will be charged to put it in the hold, and once it leaves your possession you have no idea on how it will be treated, so it could become damaged, and then not safe to use
You can take them on the plane for the child to sit in, for free, as long as the child is under 3yrs old. However, alot of carseats, are too wide to fit in the chairs on the plane, so check dimensions. Also you will have to carry it all the way from check-in to the plane, and most car seats are quite heavy

I have got the same issue, Holiday Autos wants 45 euro each to hire child seats (this is for a 7 and 9 year old in France - required by French law). they helpfully suggest you bring your own boosters for older kids, but how can you if you cant get them on the plane?
looking at the easy jet website:
1. I can't take the (Britax) booster seat as a piece of carry on as it is too big, becaues of the "horns" at the top, that the lapbelt goes under if you know what I mean.
2. It does say you can take a childs car seat on the plane (although max age limit maybe age 3?) but the maximum width is 42 cm and so the boosters are too wide.
So I can't see how anyone can take them in the cabin, although maybe other airlines are more generous?
I suppose I could put them in a case in the hold if we have room in the bags...0 -
I can't find anything now on the website but I know my daughter has taken both a pushchair and carseat free of charge with Easy jet. Both placed in the hold. In fact thats the reason she uses then as opposed to Ryanair who charge for all baby equipment other than a pushchair.0
