Hello,
My partner and I went to view a bereavement property that we loved but it needs great deal of work!! I don't think it has been decorated on 50 years.
It's not listed but need double glazing throughout.
Here is the property: http://!!!!!!/e5rrU
We have no idea how much to budget for double glazing?! Does anyone have an idea how much we should budget for?

Not decorated for 50 years? It looks lovely to me. Please say you will keep wooden windows? UPVC would look awfull! I think your best bet would be to get some quotes.Pawpurrs x

UPVC is quick/easy to install, and saves on future maintenance, but doesn't look like it would match such a beautiful property.
£2-5K? You'll need to shop around as prices vary a lot and are always negotiable.
NEVER be tempted by the salesman who offers you a special deal 'for today only', whatever reason he gives.
Putting new wooden double glazing in will cost more, but try asking local joiners for quotes.0 -
You may have to spend on double glazing, but you have the most amazing wooden floors.
Looks a lovely property. Good luck!

Well whoever lived there certainly looked after it - if that's not been decorated for 50 years, it looks truly amazing.0

A POOL!!!!!!!!!!
Buy it, who cares about the windows. I just hope you are happy to pay that little bit more to have it done sympathetically? Don't just put in the cheapest ones available!! they will ruin that house.Kavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

Wow thank for your replies. I agree wholeheartedly that it needs to be sympathetic. The windows are not critical... but I know come winter it will be incredibly cold. We can do the property up slowly over 6 years or so. It had an open day on Saturday and I think it will be popular....
Arranging another viewing. Thanks!!0 -
I saw an episode of Grand Designs yesterday, and they used a firm in Edinburgh who do period double glazing; it was amazing - you'd never tell it was double glazed by looking at it. Would imagine it was pricey, but it really was the business.0

It has a built in dishwasher, oven and fridge freezerso it can't be that long since it was last done. Unlike the one I visited yesterday that has a circa 70's kitchen, bathrooms etc in it. I;d be interested to know what the quote for windows is. I think good quality UPVC would be about £5k (did our similar sized house) and obviously you'd want wood which would be more expensive.0

there is no WAY that has been 50 years since it was decorated.. its way too nice....0
