not really
theyve stopped their grace period of free refurb replacements
i would take up their offer because the norm seems about £140
that is assuming its one of the older 60gb models
how old is it and what model is it?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Its still covered by warranty.
A little known EU rules states that every electrical appliance bought in the EU carries a 2 year warranty.
Retailers are not always aware of this but it is in place.
I heard about the law in the saturday guardian's money section.
Hope it helps0 -

It does not offer the same protection as a normal warranty does; If the customer can prove the fault arised as a direct result of shabby manufacturing (which is VERY hard to prove), then this legislation is valid. Anyway, the OP could use the English legislation that supposedly entitles the customer to 6 years of 'protection'.The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

and that little known eu law is little know because it does not apply as it was an eu directive that only mean the uk had to achieve a specific objective through implementation of law
BUT the uk alwready has the sale of goods act that not only meets the directive requirement but exceeds them
so it in no way applies
and if the ps3 is in warranty, sony have charged you because they re not responsible, you need to go to the retailer as they are and they will be the ones who will have to honour the warranty
if not you may have a hard time proving the fault of the ps3 depending on the model as they are very well built machines and often only go through excessive use
but still do give us more infoBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -

Do you keep it in an enclosed space (Tv Cabinet etc) where no air can circulate? IF you do, that might be the source of your problem. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Kept horizontally, not enclosed on a tv stand, bought 15/12/2007 (out of warranty), paid £299. Minimal usage for a games machine.0 -
Following is the reply from who I bought the PS3 from:-
I am sorry to hear that you have experienced a problem with your Sony PlayStation 3 Console.
When this item was purchased from us it included a 12 month warranty. This warranty is held with the manufacturer (Sony) and they usually will assist in any cases where the item develops a fault within the warranty period.
Unfortunately as this period has now expired the item is no longer covered under the initial warranty. As highlighted in your email the Sale of Goods Act states that the item should be fit for the purpose it was intended and should last for a reasonable amount of time.
If a fault develops within the first 6 months then the responsibility lies with the retailer. However after this time then it is for the consumer to prove that the fault was inherent in the product within that first 6 months.
I appreciate the frustration caused in this matter and I apologise for the inconvenience caused to you. In order to resolve this issue you are required to get the item checked and for the fault to be diagnosed. If the report identifies that the fault with the item was inherent or developed within the first 6 months then please let me know and I will be happy to assist you further in this matter.
I apologise for the inconvenience caused in this matter and I would like to thank you for your patience and valued custom.
Where do I go from here????.
