Are we the only couple who can't afford a holiday?

If you are not confined by school holidays then you can have a holiday cheaply with flights costing £20 return and searching out cheap hotel/apartment etc.
Two years ago I managed to get a holiday bungalow on Ebay for £200 for the week and with flights less than £300 for the three of us it was a bargain break for August.
We do try to have at least one holiday every year but we never go into debt for it. OH also takes DD camping but I come home to sleep. We are lucky in that we live near the Gower so I can spend the day with them and drive home to my own bed to sleep.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

i have managed a holiday every year for 4 years but usually end up borrowing my spending money from my parents. I recently made new friends who want me to go away with them and although i should be spending my cash on my c/c its just to tempting and i dont want tobe left out. how sad:( i will worry bout my debt later its only money. maybe thats a bad attitude but if i can keep paying my minimums for a while i can sort it out soon:D0

Hi I haven't been on a hol in nearly 10 years. By the time I put the animals into care and paid single supplement (one of my biggest bugbears) on my room then I will have shelled out a fortune just to get a "so called" cheap holiday.
Still at least I'm not worrying about getting deeper into debt over a week in the sun.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
Hubby & I have 3 weekends away in 8 years, we have no debt, we just don't have any spare cash. One of the weekends was through the Sun but it worked out a lot more expensive than £10. It was £10 per head if there were 4 people sharing, so £40 for the 2 of us, £16 linen charge & £12 for a Park pass, £68 in total.
Last month we spent a weekend in a friends caravan, £40, no running water or other facilities.

We're going on a £100 holiday to Cornwall in September this year - thats self-catering, and we're driving from Leicestershire to get there - we're very worried that our 9-year-old car wont even make it there so we might not even get there lol!!!!!!
We both have good jobs and good wages, Im on a DMP though and by the time bills and that are paid, there isnt much left for holidays. But we went on a similar holiday to Devon last year and had a fantastic time for next to nothing - that also entitled us to money off this years holiday though which is good - we also had a short city break in London in January (3 nights in a £9 Travelodge room, along with a nice meal in Leicester Square on the final night paid for by Wetherspoons vouchers we got for Xmas!!)
I do get jealous when I see my brother jetting off all over the world but then I remember he's in debt up to his eyeballs and is always borrowing cash off my mum.. our hols may be cheap and cheerful but at least they are within our means.... and Im sure you arent the only ones not to have a holiday in this current financial climate.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

We haven't had a holiday for years due to lack of money and concentrating on the OH's career. Now I'm halfway through a three year nursing degree and we never have the same time off.
Having said that, I spend most of my time reading OS on this board, and it would break my heart to spend so much money on a holiday with nothing to show for it at the end!0 -
Its that time of year again isn't it?
TV holiday adverts, we're hearing it everywhere.
Like many of you, we have not had a holiday for years either, 2001 was the last one. We do though as we have an autistic son is we go on outings.
Even though its difficult financially, our son has complexed needs, so if we do plan another holiday it will have to be a quiet one, he cannot cope with too many around him unfortunately, yet he loves the beach.
So we will stick to outings at this time that does not really need money as such.
I have never been abroad, but love Cornwall (Newquay)X
My parents been married for almost 50 years and only ever had one holiday and that was before dad became very ill a few years back, they brought 8 of us up, and one of my brothers have severe autism, he is 44 now...bless him and he has holidays twice a year through the social services.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Yes, I'm the same. Sure it might be nice to get away but the money spent could go to better uses. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I hadn't been on holiday from 1994 - 2008 when I won a trip to the States. It used to peeve me off to have people tell me that I was boring because I wasn't going abroad, and I used to wonder how they could constantly do it year after year or several times a year. Some would come straight out and say, "Why don't you go on holday?" and they would have this perplexed look on their face when I would say, "I can't afford it".
Now my debts are sorted, I'm off to Australia later this year for £500 rtn due to the Singapore Airlines flights offer. I've lived off own brand beans and bread for years while I sort my debts out and now I'm in a position to have a treat, see family, but once the trip is over, it will be back to the grind and trying to bring my mortgage down!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0
