  • If anyone thinks they might want to use Repair care, DONT. I have had no fridge for 3 MONTHS! Missed appointments, wrong parts ordered, no return phonecalls, slow inefficient service, avoid this seeminly cheap alternitive to a normal repair company:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

On the face of it this seems a good and sensible idea, but in the interests of balance, do they also check that any person publishing damaging complaints about a company have a right to complain too? It's just as easy for anyone (including a competitor for example) to post defamatory remarks about a "company" freely on the forums, it just seems strange to try to prevent anyone responding so freely.

I hope I'm not misinterpreted, I'm thinking of the very general principle rather than defending any particular company. I've never seen such a rule in a forum before. On balance I think it's more likely that potential damage or harm could be inflicted by a minority of the general public publishing unjust or even malicious complaints about a company than someone pretending to be from a company either defending or offering ways to resolve the issues.

It just seems unfair that anyone can complain and even advise all members to NOT use a company freely, but no one from that company is allowed to even apologise or offer to help unless they get permission and prove who they are.

No offence meant to anyone - especially anyone with genuine complaints. I'm just a sucker for fairness and balance. :-)

  • I have read posts on this firm with interest! my well known make side by side American type fridge freezer stopped working the other day, its just over three years old, the warranty ran out at 24 months and I didn't renew as I've never had problems with these items before, I rang all the local repair people and none of them did this make, I asked in a local shop and was given the number of someone who might be able to help me, he rang me back and said it sounded like the compressor had gone, but if I could take the back panel off and clean the dust out it might start again, I tried this and it didn't start, he said if it was the compressor it would be very expensive, the shop I bought it from said they wouldn't come out unless I paid for another years care plan at a cost of nearly £300, and the thought of that and parts and labour charges made me start looking for a new Fridge, even the helpful man on the phone said he would charge £90 just for coming to look, I've found a site on the internet that seems to stock parts for my model and they are not too expensive, I paid about £500 for this fridge freezer and thought it would last longer than 3 and a bit years, I thought I had fixed it when on the internet I found that if you held the freezer and super freeze buttons in it would re set the display from "Display Mode" no mention of how it got into display mode! and I cannot find a mention of this in the notes! and it worked the temperature display started dropping unfortunately its still warm inside, so I was interested to see this site advertised but after reading others comments I'm not sure if I want to use it, so having lost a freezer worth of food and most of the fridge food, it looks likely I will have to pay to have my new looking fridge freezer taken away to be dumped and buy another one, this is very annoying and I will not be getting the same make again or going to the same shop.:(

These type of fridge freezers are usually very expensive. If the compressor has gone and it's going to cost a lot of money to repair you may be entitled to compensation under the sale of goods act as products are obliged to last a reasonable time and a small claims court may well agree that 3 years is not a reasonable time.

Your claim (and rights) would be with the retailer you bought it from though unfortunately most will fob you off unless you are very persistent.

  • When my zanussi washing machine had a problem mid wash and wouldn't rinse the suds away, I now regrettably thought 'Repaircare' looked the ideal solution. I paid on-line £145 and within 2 days had 2 local engineers arrive. The elder engineer pressed the on switch and selected a programme. I was totally shocked when the machine worked perfectly well! The engineer said a piece of fluff would have dislodged itself and rectified the problem. He then told me Repaircare would refund £100 and I would just be charged £45 call-out fee as NO REPAIR WORK WAS CARRIED OUT. He said it would take upto 3 days, but to contact them quoting the job number if not. I spoke to an uninterested customer service girl who asked 'so what do you want me to do?' I said a part refund please. She said her manager would call me back - no-one did. I have since had various correspondence via email with Carl Long from 'complaints escalations' (just goes to show they have a lot!!) who has repeated replied: quote '.... A refund cannot be processed as the engineer has attended and has used his knowledge and expertise to resolve the issue with your appliance which is now working.' What a scam and a complete joke! Pressing the on button and turning a dial is classed as using knowledge and expertise - and even the engineer said a refund is due as NO REPAIR WORK WAS CARRIED OUT!! Avoid this company at all costs - I'll certainly be passing this warning onto family, friends, work colleagues, the works intranet & on facebook and any other 'rate a company' site I can find!!

I'm v unhappy with repaircare their engineer came and "re-gassed" my fridge freezer then left. They now say that since that didnt fix it there must be a leak in the system which is uneconomic to repair so have refunded my charge less a call out charge.

I'm v unhappy because I paid for a fixed priced repair not for someone to turn up for 2 minutes and do the easiest possible thing then refuse to come back. There is no way they can know it is a gas leak (and I dont think it is because it still freezes up which it wouldnt do if there was no gas in it?).

I have asked for their engineers report and have said that I intend to call out someone else to do the repair and pass the bill on to them

Am I being unreasonable? what do people suggest? should I go to trading standards?

Stupid me!! why did I not think to check some 'reviews' before I paid Repaircare. So far I received a half-hour visit by an engineer who replaced a temperature sensor in a fridge-freezer. After 6 hours it was still not freeezing or cooling. Agent's office said, we can't get back to you until 7 days ahead. What a stupid person I am!!! I'll update this saga as I'm sure this will run.
