Mark are you definitely sure it's worth that much, Parkers do an online value thingy for free and my car had gone from £1100 to £500 in 18 months because it's a larger engine which people don't want. Well I think that's the reason

The public transport by me is pretty good to be honest josephine1 but i'd certainly love to be able to use that one if i could. my car is actually worth £500 according to the online valuation by the way!...interesting

Really? blimey i'll get on to that then, nice one thanks.
  • my OR was going to take my car as im not working and i have 2 young children, but my nan is classed as a dependant as without me taking her shes unable to get out as she has a lot of illnesses so needs to go doctors alot.

at first they said that they are taking my car so was going to arrange my nan buy it off them but it wasnt till a month later they decided i could keep it on the grounds that it is needed for my nan not just its easier

by the way my car was worth £300-£400 on parkers

so deffinatly get doctors notes to back up the case with your child

and just hope you have a nice OR

some people have had cars alot less took off them.

if you are on benefits they wont be looking to get an ipa so they wont be trying to get more money BUT they may see it more as a want not need

have a search through this forum for br and cars and compare

My car was worth about £300.
I am recovering from ME so go to lots of classes and Physio...
    So I pleaded my case...
After 5 months of BR I had a letter saying buy it for £150 or we want it....
It needed at least £150 spending on it (brakes, tyre etc) so after some deliberation I said take it.....

Bit of a cheek asking £150 though - the guy who took it away said it was going to cost him over £100 in costs to scrap it!!! (he didn't want the current MOT so he definitely was going to scrap it)

    No logic here is there!!
    So the OR got nothing!!

I bought another cheap car and never looked back

  • My car was worth around 800 (and was cream-crackered and needed around 400 quids worth of work doing to it to get it right) but they still took it.....

Firm that collected it was really surprised - threy said that it really wasn't worth it, and even asked me to make them an offer to keep it and they would take anything for it. They said that after their charges for collection and processing, and the amount they will get for it, that they believed there will be nothing left to go to the creditors....

That said, I have seen many examples of ORs being considerate to circumstances (mine included), and providing you can give them some sort of evidence, they should be accomodating to your needs.

    All the best.
