Keeping my car worth £700

Do you think BR would let me keep my old car worth about £700, unfortunately i'm not working at the moment but am actively looking also my dependant child has asthma and i need the car for him as public transport tends to worsen the condition if he's forced to use it?

Yes, they would let you keep the car as long as you need it to attend interviews / apply for jobs / take your kid to medical appointments etc.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

If your car is a vital part to your life and is valued at less than £1000 then you are allowed to keep it.
The Trustees are not there to be rotten to you and to be honest we found ours were very reasonable - we were all set to have to part with stuff but being honest the value of second hand goods (cars included) is probably so crap just now that they probably feel that people are better off being allowed to keep things rather than the Trustees having the hassle of sellign them for what would only be a few quid.0 -
actually thats not quite right nobody is GUARANTEED to keep cars of a low value.....you will need to put a case to the receiver as to WHY you need to keep the vehicle along with any proof you have..medical letters etc
i've known the OR take interest in far lower priced vehicles in the past

You'll need to prove that the car is a neccessity rather than a convenience. By taking the car the OR doesn't necessarily make a lot of money, but it does lessen some of the outgoings on your SOA which make it possible for them to propose an IPA. As Phil says, you need to make a case as to why you need the car, and if possible get back up - whether it be a letter from your son's dr saying that public transport makes his asthma worse.Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

Should have said that in Scotland cars are only assets if valued over £1000.
Don't know about England - i can only speak for the Scottish system.
Sorry if this has confused anyone.

Ok thanks guys, although the value of the car isn't worth much money wise, it's worth much more to me in other ways, i'll be looking for a note from the doctor or Asthma nurse on that one to back that one up.0
