Cancelling my TV licence?

You pay the TV licence for the right to own equipment that can receive a television signal.
it is completely irrelevant if you actually watch it or not.
why do you think you have to give your name and address when you buy a freeview box ?
What an absolute load of twaddle :rotfl:
You only need a TV licence if you actually watch live television broadcasts or use equipment which records live broadcasts! Be that via aerial/digi/sky box/internet/cable.
If you do not use it for this purpose you do not have to buy a TV license.
De-tune all the channels and remove all aerial leads (and hide them away) then phone up and cancel.
Expect a few letters and you may also get a visit. If you have done the above this should not be a problem as a TV license person has to prove (by making it work) that the equipment is being used to view or record live broadcasts.Never ever sign anything that a TV license person gives you on a visit! This is usually your admission of guilt and is the number one thing they use in securing a conviction for license evasion.0
