I have just downloaded google chrome and am happy with it. The question is how do I transfer the shortcut icon to another users desktop ie. my daughters? I have tried copy and paste but when I switch user there is no option to paste.

Paste the shortcut into the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop (on XP)
  • or when logged onto the relevant user account just go to the relevant program icon, right click on it and select Send To / Desktop (create shortcut)

or as Jaffa suggested, either way will do, whatever is easiest for you.

How do I find that specific folder?

In XP it's Start > click on 'Run' > copy 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop' (without the '' ) into the box. > click OK.

    In Vista I think it's C:\Users\Public

Just paste the Chrome short cut into the desktop folder and everyone should then have it

Does the chrome shortcut appear on your daughter's desktop?

By default Chrome installs into your user account folder instead of the more usual Program Files. If anyone besides you wants to use it, they'll need to install it from within their own user account.

Right click it > go to properties. The target should be pointing to:

    "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

    Start in: "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application"
