I posted a question about this a day or two ago. THERE'S GOT TO BE A CATCH -- HASN'T THERE?? I mean, how do Carphone Warehouse make any money on this? You get 1000 minutes off-peak per month and all your rental back every 4 months. SURELY there's no such thing as summink for nuffink? (Plus, I asked a member of staff in a Carphone Warehouse shop what happens at the end of the contract, and he said you get to keep the phone -- is that right?)

Cashback deals have been going for years and they are legit. You just have to make sure you follow the letter of the T&Cs. If you are late sending a bill off to them they will cancel the cashback, that sort of thing. They probably count on quite a few people getting it wrong.

The retailer gets a commission from the network for signing up customers and as far as I know it is from that commission they pay the cashback.

Risks are that the retailer goes bust so I would stick with the bigger ones or that the customer forgets to send a bill back in time.

They will also make money from any calls you make during peak hours, premium rate calls etc.

And yes, you get to keep the phone at the end of the 12 months - as with any other contract.

I reckon they are banking on a couple of things.

1. you will use the phone in peak times when it will no doubt be quite expensive and 2,. like already stated here people will either forget or be late in sending in their details for cashback thereby not qualifying.
