Toaster faulty after 18 months

Hi we bought a toaster in last years jan sales and was reduced from £50 to £25 so a mid range price one.

The make is Beville so a well known one too.

but over the last few days everytime we used it the power would go off (the whole house would trip out) so we moved the toaster to a different plug same thing happened and then we moved it to another room (different circuit) and again it happened.

So as this is out of warranty is there now anything we can do about it?

Argos do not wanna know as it's past 12 months

Quote EU directive stating all pruducts sold in EU have to be guaranteed for 2 yr since 2002.Google this, and contact Argos again. Good luck.

UK is covered by the Sale of Goods Act which is much better than this EU warranty - the EU warranty is to give customers in other countries more protection where consumer law is not as good as the laws we have.

Your best bet would be to get an independant report from a certified electrical engineer confirming that it is an inherent fault rather than misuse etc, as after 6 months (though Argos provide 12 months) it is the onus of the consumer to prove it is faulty.

To be honest though you may be flogging a dead horse for a £25 toaster, at best with an independant report if there is no stock to replace it they would offer a partial refund, I reckon you'd be lucky to get £10...

Try contacting Breville and see what they say.

buy a new 1. 18 months is a LOOOOOONG time if used more than once a day.

That'll probably cost more than a new toaster :rotfl:

I think 18 months is fairly reasonable lifetime for a toaster, especially one that costs less than £25.

My Morphy Richards (?) kettle did the same thing after 7 years.

I only used it once or twice a day.
