  • Hope I'm not highjacking this thread but could one of you experienced peeps out there tell me if Tom Tom is the best make? I am needing to get a SatNav for my elderly father as today he got lost just 10 miles from home!! Seriously! Have NO experience of these things and would welcome all advice. Pleaaaasssee!!!!
My Grandad has found the Evesham BM6300...A very user friendly Sat-Nav, and fairly priced too.

I don't know how many tomtom users have downloaded the new software (tomtomHome) that should make it easier to find out what new updates are available. Tomtom seemed to issue a number of updates in quick succession (never a good sign!). I think I've got it working now, but have needed to buy a bigger memory card (from 128 to 256MB).

If you do use this software, it's worth noting that it's set up to download both map/data and system software, so once it's installed it does have a slightly different look and feel, with some new functions.

Also, before checking for updates, make sure you logon, else you won't get what you've paid for.

Finally, if you have the original 128MB SD card that comes with the unit, I'd suggest that you upgrade to 512MB or 1GB, as I now have only 14MB of my 256MB card left. You can get them just about anywhere, but I think

    ....have Sandisk 512MB for £9.99 and 1GB for £14.99.
