Remote Control of Computer... .

I'm quoting myself now... .
I can send an invitation which I could store on my computer but it expires after 30 days. Do you think there's any way to potentially make it a shortcut so mum would just have to click once in order to offer me remote access to her computer?
Sure- Right click the Desktop and click NEW > SHORTCUT
- It will ask for a location, type in msra.exe (Microsoft Remote Assistance)
- Click NEXT.
- Now it will ask for a name to give the shortcut, type in something useful like 'Ask For Remote Assistance' and click FINISH.
Voila!SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
I've just reread your post and realised that this shortcut will only start up the Remote Assistance application. You are going to have to teach her how to send you the invitation.
Unless that whole process can be automated somehow... Let me have a think...SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -

The shortcut will make it easier. I'm just trying to configure Outlook with her gmail settings to enable the invitation to be sent through that, which would save her generating an invitation, going into gmail, attaching it to an e-mail, etc... .0 -

Excellent, that should simplify the process no end. Good luck!SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -

Lol, you try setting up Outlook! It's not going well at the moment so am going to give up and get some sleep. Maybe it'll magically have started working by the morning. Thank you for your help... .0 -
For what its worth , I use the free version of logmein from www.logmein.com. its akin to GoToMyPc but is free. I had not thought of using remote assistance (nice idea) but it relies on emailing an invite. What if the problem is related to email and you can't send the invite?Chris Elvin0

I have TightVNC set up on my Vista PC and on my mum's XP PC - took some faffing around by a techie friend but it works. My mum is in her 80s and is convinced that the PC does things 1) by itself and 2) to spite her. Some endless phone calls later (very frustrating ones I have to add) we got this set up and it's fab.
It's rather slow to react to my mouse movements and the most difficult part is stopping my mum from trying to do things at the same time as me. Not quite like my business VPN remote access but, nevertheless, a wonder intervention which makes life so much easier!0 -
Yeah just use Remote Assistance, there's no need to be using anything else like log me in. Just make it so Remote Assistance does not expire and password protect it, that way she does not need to keep on sending it via email.0

As Gers says above, I don't really foresee any actual problems, just my mum not being able to follow my detailed instructions! I didn't actually think that there might be an e-mail problem though... .
I didn't realise that there's a free version of logmein. Is it secure...?0 -

Unfortunately Remote Assistance forces me to add an expiry date of 30 days on any invitation I send... .0
