I would suggest a kareoke too and above all make sure you have help to clean up afterwards!
Good ldea for the drawing game songs, we used to have an easel when mine were little so if you have 1 of those you could also do the tv programmes game, give us a clue.
The noise levels with girls can get quite high easily so make sure you have a room to shelter in if it starts to be approaching screeching.

I don't know if I would allow them the makeup thing. I might be out of touch though, my DD wasn't interested in makeup at 11. One party game that was a hit in the home of aussielass :D was a game called celebrity heads. We would make some cards up and attach one to a HM plastic hair band which had the name of a celebrity on it. One girl would sit on the chair with the head band on with the card in & have to ask say 5 questions to guess who it was. If they didn't guess it, they were booted off :D and a new girl came on with a different name on. I hope this makes sense. You may google it for the right rules but they loved it.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

An old fave from my childhood was one that lasted ages and the props could be prepared in advance. You need: a die/dice, a large bar of chocolate, plate, knife and fork, and some silly, unmatching clothes: a hat, scarf, gloves and coat. The girls all take turns to throw the dice, as soon as someone throws a six they get to race to put on the silly clothes then sit down and try to eat as much chocolate a possible by cutting a piece at a time using the knife and fork. In the meantime, the others carry on throwing the dice, and as soon as someone else throws a six they get to swap over with the one dressing up/eating chocolate. It's great fun and most of the time is spent dressing and undressing with the props - it takes ages for the chocolate to be eaten, even if you keep a really fast pace with the dice throwing. Children of 11 are so competitive they will do the cheering and hurrying along of their own accord and you should only feel worn out by watching them!

Good luck PP - I still remember my birthday parties fondly, there's nothing like homemade cakes and party games to make a childhood special.

Another idea I have used at a children's party (which might help control things a bit more tightly) is just to have a few bits of make up available and some paper templates, eg hearts, daisies, and just use a pink/lilac colour, or a face paint to do a motif on each girl's cheek (like they have at rugby matches, but more girly)...

Hi PP - ideas that I've used to keep mine amused included a treasure hunt, around the house, garden or village, dependent on ages and weather! You can write out clues in advance, and hand each girl a typed sheet, or they could work in teams. We've also done t-shirt decorating with fabric pens, these then became the going home gift! We used value t-shirts from Tesco. If you do this remember to put something between front and back of the shirts though. A dvd is a great idea, and good for calming children down after food and games, and it gives you time to clear away food before mums and dads arrive!

Hope that your dd has a great party

Edit: I also provided make up last year for dd1 and this went down really well, make sure that you have wipes and a mirror handy though! dd2 has done face painting, each of the girls did a design on another girl, and this created lots of laughs!

I recommend sleeping lions for when you start to feel a bit overwhelmed. I used to run a playscheme and when all the kids were getting too hyper we would play this. Have them all lie on the floor and keep as still as they can, bliss!

Sounds wonderful PP - so refreshing to know that your daughter wishes to have a traditional birthday party. The children in my class are just so competitive, having parties that cost a small fortune, and not really enjoying them. One child last week said she is 'only' going to Cannons for her birthday with 10 friends. 'Only'!!! I can't afford to go there for a swim!

Good luck, I hope it all goes well for you. I'm sure your daughter will look back and remember her Bratz party when she is in her teens. My sons still remember all the effort I put into their parties, and can still identify every themed birthday cake I lovingly made for them. They are now 23 years old!

    Have fun!

Hi PP, I'm really glad that you are feeling better and your daughters party sounds great already! I love the 'pin the bag on the Bratz' game...very inspired!

I work alot with teenage girls and a little younger and if the girls coming are into makeup then I would say the party will be a sure fire hit if you let them use some! If they are into make-up how about you becoming involved? When they first arrive they could each get a 'manicure' from you...any old nail varnish would do, then when their nails are wet they get their make-over from their mates and take it in turn? My girls love make up and nail varnish and pamper sessions are always a big hit!

On the drawing theme, could you get your daughter to make Bratz templates, i.e. outlines of the different characters and they could each decorate them?

I like aussielass's idea about the celebrity game, you could adapt this so that it is 'guess the Bratz character'?

I reckon a 'disco' would go down well for a while too, and how about chinese whispers..bound to get them giggling like mad un's :)
  • Thanks for so many replies-greatly apreciated!

I have called all the mums and have reduced the party time by 1hr, so its now 3.30-5.30. They were superb about it and all offered their services:D im so grateful to have good friends and be thought of so well:confused:

DD has always been a tomboy, so i was very surprised when she mentioned about the make-up and putting it on each other. Im all for self-discovery and am pleased she has asked for something. I have a ton of make-up all good stuff that I no longer use, so she can use this.

My nephew was 10 recently and sister took a few of his mates bowling with a meal afterwards and it cost her £150:eek: then she had a chelsea football cake made (£25) and pressies for pass the parcel, then party bags. She must of in total spent around £250:eek: Saying that I would have easily spent that on DD 2 years ago, but i like the idea of having it at home with a few close friends. Seems more personal and know there wont be many more as shes growing up so quickly:rolleyes:

House isnt really big enough for a treasure hunt, but this is a fantastic idea...thanks!! All the suggestions have been very useful and will take them all on board. Particularly love the sleeping lions:D would that last 2 hrs though:confused: :rotfl:

Does the food menu sound OK. Queenie suggested earlier looking through some of the recipe boards, but think what I have planned will be enough-or is that just wishful thinking...LOL. We are having a buffet style including:

2 x HM Pizzas (1 cheese and the other Hawaiian)
    Sausage Rolls
    Cold Chicken drumsticks
    HM Chicken nuggets-served cold
    Cheese/apple sticks
    Sarnies (ham, cheese or jam)
    Crisps
    Bowl of mixed salad

    Jelly & Ice cream
    Marshmellows and choc sauce
    Cupcakes
    Bowl of fruit
    Bratz Cake

Its all easy food that can be done and left IYSWIM, I dont want to be stuck in the kitchen. Some can be prepared the day before. I have been given loads of disposable cups and plates, but treated DD to a Bratz set of plates/cups/napkins from ebay and were dead cheap, but will use the others as serving dishes and they can be binned after, so no washing up!

    Thanks again.

    Sounds fantastic PP!

The pizza/chicken drumsticks sounds delicious. And there looks as though there will be loads if it is only for 7 girls and a few helpers.

One thing I would suggest is that unless the salad is for the grown-ups, it might be worth swapping it for sticks of carrot/celery/cucumber, with cherry tomatoes (possibly with a HM dip?) - more tempting finger food than a mixed salad perhaps! Maybe you could also get your daughter to make the bowl of fruit into a fruit salad - will keep in the fridge if you use fruit juice as the liquid. Peeling an orange tends to be seen as really hard work when you're ten or eleven.... ;-)
