why do i have to declare "claim" ?? car renewal

Options
Some one reversed into my stationary car in February writing it off!

Eventually i tracked them down and got their insurance details. I let my insurance company know what had happened, as i am required to do so.

I dealt direct with third party insurance company and the claim was settled direct with them.

Now it is renewal time, i still have my full no claims , but i am asked if i have made a claim in the last 5 years. I haven't claimed on my insurance so why do i have to say yes?

I have compared prices with and without the claim , even by filling details of the claim stating 3rd party was 100% at fault , i am still being hit with a higher premium!!

Why do i have to pay an extra £100 on my insurance when i was not at fault and did not claim from my insurance?

seems unfair to me!

Fault or non-fault a claim still constitutes a material fact. That's why it has to be disclosed.

I agree, what i dont agree with is the system, if it was third party fault and my no claims wasnt affected surely my premium should reflect this.

After all the question should be, " have you made any claims on "your" insurance in the last five years. Surely you would only claim of the third party insurance if they was at fault, leaving my insurance untouched.

Why do i have to pay a premium for some one else's incompetence?
  • its because your classed as a higher risk once you have been involved in a accident, fault or non fault.

    You are 100% correct:

You are at fault your premiums go up
You are not at fault your premiums go up.
You report an incident but don’t claim of the IC your premiums go up.
You don’t make any claims and have a extra year NCB your premium goes up.

But apparently this is all above board because the IC’s say so, and that’s also why you have to pay for someone else’s incompetence, because the IC’s say so

Wrong, it’s because the IC’s are greedy, and manipulative.

I was not involved in a accident, the car was parked outside my house, i was in bed asleep!!

I already pay a premium because my car is parked on a public road at night, that is why they ask the question and i answer honestly!!

A car is more likely to be hit on a supermarket car park than outside a house, there are more risks parked on a car park than parked on a public road, more reversing manoeuvring, pedestrians, children, trolleys and people not looking where they are going just looking for some where to park!!

I think the insurance companies just look for any excuse to screw you!!

Sooner or later they will probably ask if you take your car to the supermarket.

Statistically, people who have a claim are more likely to be more prone to claiming again. Insurance takes into account statistics.

Reverse the position and pretend its your money and your research shows that people claiming in non-fault cases are more likely to have another claim than those that dont. Wouldnt you charge more to cover that extra risk?
