Alliance & Leicester £100 Scam!

I opened one of the accounts that paid £100 as long as a certain amount was paid in each month. It also said that you had to switch atleast one payment from your old account to the A&L account. I only had one standing order so I switched it to A&L.
I've had a letter today saying because I didn't switch a DD in the first 11 weeks that I won't be getting the £100. No paperwork that I had said it had to be a DD.
Is it worth a letter to them or should I just close the account?
Thanks

It had to be a Direct Debit to qualify. It did state on there webisite that
it had to be a direct debit when the offer was open, but only in smallprint.
I switched my Paypal DD, by the switching service. But it never got set up by
them correctly. So I set it back up myself. Made a small paypal purchase and hey presto 100 quid back.0 -
I Used an ING D/D I thought they were not going to pay up, but as the post above did I sent a small amount and a day later £100 appeared. Very pleased.0

Alternatively, I belive that some savings accounts (ICICI, and Icesave spring to mind) operated using direct debits to transfer money to them. That being the case, if you had one of these sorts of accounts, you could transfer money accross to them, thereby adhering to A&L's terms but without spending a penny.

I dont think I can do any of these as the letter states that I haven't done it within 11 weeks of the account opening.
Has anyone else written to complain and got the £100?0 -

What would you complain about? Not keeping your side of the bargain.
(It is not helpful describing something as a scam which patently is not.) :rolleyes:RIP independent MSE.

I think it is a scam when it doesn't clearly show it has to be a DD. My letter said you must transfer a DD or SO but did not say in that paragraph that it had to be a DD.
Its easy to hide stuff in the small print. I know what you're going to say, that we should read all the small print but please! thats just sneaky.0 -

When I applied for this account I only received information about the switching service by post, nothing about the £100 incentive offer (I don't think it was even mentioned). Do you still have the letter stating that you can qualify for the £100 incentive by switching only a SO? If so, what exactly does it state in that paragraph?0 -
i setup an a+l account at the end of last year when they were doing the £100 incentive last time. it clearly stated that you had to use premier switching service whilst setting up account. i did indeed recieved the £100 as promised.0

I got the exact same letter yesterday. If i had known they wouldn't pay. i would have set up a direct debit to myself and then switched it. i will phone them up and speak to them and i might get lucky. I also would have gotten another £50 for doing it through topcashback if i had known. i might still get the £25 for referring someone though.0
