Depending on how far from the airport you live the best thing to do is pop in with YOUR case. We had a couple of bags that we weren't sure about so when passing LPL airport I nipped in and tried them in both Ryanair and Easyjet's cabin bag stands. We now know that we can take them as hand luggage without problems.

Yes this cabin baggage thing is getting silly !!!!
Travelled on a Jet2 flight a few weeks ago.
There was so much cabin baggage they had to get the steps back to the plane open the hold label about 10 bags and put them in the hold !!!!
What a flamin waste of time !!!!!!!!!
  • Hi!

I've always taken my suitcase which is only 2cm out in depth and usually I pack it full of stuff that it even exceeds that a bit. I have used this case for years and I fly with ryanair a lot (wish I didn't have to :p), and I've never had a problem with it. This may also be because I almost always use priority check in, and I've never seen anyone be asked to look at their bag before.

To be honest I never even thought to check it was too big. I never even tried to put it in the box thing they have at the gate incase it didn't fit, it looked small but I always thought I could squeeze it in there (just never wanted to incase someone said anything :p). It's only recently my bf has told me he's seen people get checked and that they are becoming more strict with cabin luggage, that I've been worrying. I have a flight coming up so I'm getting nervous. I really want to take this suitcase and have priority check in, so shall I just risk it again as I always do? :p

I think they're 20cm depth is way too small as most cabin sized suitcases I've found either in the stores or online are over that. It should be about 22-23. I think most people have this problem too.

    God, how I hate ryanair.

I live quite far from the airport and it costs quite a bit of money and hassle to get there, so I wouldn't go all the way out there just to check for certain it'll fit. (really should have tried when I was there). I'd like to know are the dimensions of the box thing EXACTLY 20 in depth? Has anyone with a larger suitcase managed to fit it in?
  • Id be interested to know whats FORCING you to use Ryanair if you hate them but still continue to fly with them a lot.

You know what the bag sizes are. It's up to you what you do. No one here can assure you that everything will be fine. I've flown with Ryanair half a dozen times this year, and bag size was checked once at Stansted, by security.
    Have a good trip.

Flylite have a lightweight bag, only 750g, the exact dimensions for Ryanair. Take a look at their website, Flylite.uk.com. I bought the medium size foldaway earlier in the year. Its excellent quality and folds away into itself.
  • Why else would people use them? The price of course. I can't afford any of the other airlines.

Thanks for the link, I'd prefer to use a suitcase though. :)
