talktalk to sky.......or not?

Hi, I have had talktalk 'free'(£19.99) broadband and unlimited free landline calls since the package came out (around 8 years I would think).
I have had no issues, it's been fast and reliable. We have 1 desktop, 2 laptops, a ps3 and wii all using the connection at various times and have no connection problems at all.
However I'm quite tempted by the lastest sky offer of basic sky plus for £16.59 pm and add a package for £1, with free evening and weekend calls to landlines. I'm not a sports fan it's more the temptation of the free shiny sky box and a few extra channels.
I've been with talktalk so long I've sort of forgot what the process of changing provider entails. Anybody got any advice or horror stories?
I can't afford to lose my broadband connection for more than a day or two or my wife and kids will drive me insane. Anybody have any idea how long I'll get knocked off for during the changeover?
Basically any advice or help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You should only lose your broadband for an hour or so unless you are very unlucky, I was and was without broadband for 3 months.
You do realise that Sky basic broadband is only up to 2Mbps with a 2Gb cap.
Sky Everyday Broadband is £5/month up to 10Mbps, 10Gb cap
Sky Unlimited broadband £10/month up to 20MBps, unlimited.
Assumes you take Sky talk otherwise £5 extra.
Sky are increasing their line rental to £11 per month and TV packages prices by £1 from September.
As far as I can see the Sky offer is not conditional on you taking broadband from them so why change it?

Thanks very much for your reply, no I hadn't realised there was a 2gb cap. That'll be no good for me, I have no idea how much we download per month but I would guess a lot more than that. The kids are never off the net.
And as for 3 months.....THREE MONTHS!!!!!!!
I can't even begin to contemplate that, thanks very much I think I'll stay with talktalk and my free view box.0 -
Tell me about it, I had to resort to dial up.
In fairness to Sky it was BTs !!!! up at the exchange, plugged me into a faulty DSLAM port, Sky did refund me around £60 for the inconvenience though and it has been rock solid ever since.
As I said you don't need to take up the broadband offer, just have the Telly. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I wouldn't get my moneys worth from just the telly bit. I'm as tight as a fishes hoop and the prospect of paying £16.50 plus for a bit of extra telly would give my poor wallet a heart attack. lol
Thanks for the help0 -
I have just switched from Sky to Tiscali. For £14.99/mth get un-limited downloads (fair usage of 100gb but how many would need that much anyway?) Free line rental and weekend calls. Swich over was a doddle. Had to ring thir customer service a couple of times to to confirm some things but they were very helpful and quick to answer the phone. Tiscali are about to be taken over by Talk Talk so anyone wanting to get rid of Sky and their 'repeat' channels do it know. Go thru quidco to get £35 which will cover the £30 set-up fee. The contract is just 12 months un-like talk talk 18.
Re-flashed the sky router to get wireless connection at no additional cost!:beer:0
