12 month contract coming to an end

I am nearing the end of a free 12 month contract with 02 and am planning on getting a new deal so that I don't have to pay after the 12 months are up.

If I write to 02 now and request to cancel and to get my pac code, what will happen after 12 months if I haven't sorted a new deal? Will my sim card become a payg?

no, it will continue on contract if you don't use the pac. why not switch to payg now, and when you see a deal you want phone up for the pac, they should give it to you there and then.

The 12 months is the minimum term of your contract and it will not automatically cease. If you want to move to another provider and take your number, just request your PAC when your 12 months has elapsed. The PAC is valid for 30 days and will terminate your current contract when used by the new provider but if you want to have another deal with O2, you will have to go to another provider first and then transfer back to O2 as you can only port your number to a different network.
