There wii be huge screens on one wall with the runners and riders and another wall will be covered with the racing pages cut out from the daily papers.
The easy way is assuming you know what time you are going pick a horse from a race before you go.
So you don't stick out, walk boldly in and stand and look at the screens, stand there staring at them for a full couple of minutes. Now observe where the punters are picking up the blank betting slips from.
Get a betting slip and write on it
"2.30 Newmarket. scotsbob £2 to win" now take it with your cash to the cashier and pay him.
If you was in my area you would stick out a mile, women don't go to betting shops. Therefore you need to dress down. Put a scarf over your head, have a fag hanging out of your mouth. Spray some gin on your clothes before entering.
Good luck (and not for your bet, for you 'cause you will need it)
thanks.....getting the gin out now! :rotfl:
got a few of these booked but im sure after the 1st one i'll be ok:eek:0 -
I don't know what day you have your visits booked, but if possible rebook for Saturday when they will be busy - you'll be less likely to stick out. Check the toilets last as you may need to ask for a key, which will draw attention to you.
I fancy a few more, I'm not proudA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Exactly so. It's the same with all the assignments isn't it. You go into a place for the first time and you are disorientated. By the time you do it for the 4th or 5th time. It's a doddle.
The key thing is to walk in boldly and stand and look intently at the screens.
1. It is what most punters do.
2. It gives you the chance to survey the situation.
Be sure to post back and tell us all how you got on. So few jobs going so we could do with a laugh.0 -

LOL - well it seems my advice was the total opposite to your Bob ! Its ok for you blokes - you dont stick out like a sore thumb in a bookies whereas us girlies do tend to get a lot of very strange looks !!
Now, now, read my advice carefully I did advise her how to blend in.
If the OP is still reading then I should have given you some of the jargon to help you.
Useful phrases to help you blend in.
"Wot jew fancy forra two firty then?"
"Sooner he ends up in the glue factory the better"
"I was gonna bet that un but changed me mind dinnit I?"
"Cor blimey that's the arsekeeping gawn again"
Of course if you are north of the Watford Gap then they will have the opposite effect of blending in.0 -
Best way is to go in and plead total ignorance to the whole procedure - say you are placing a bet for an elderly relative who cant get out due to illness or something if they ask. Then you should get all the help you need.0

You could look up the runners online before you go out, pick a race and a horse, and then when you go in you can say it's a horse your husband/partner's workmate has got shares in. That explains why you would be in a bookies and not sure of what to do.0 -
