Cheapest iPhone alternative?

It's worth considering the HTC Hero - it's much cheaper than the iphone but not drastically cheap at 400 quid offline. However, a £35/month 18 month contract will get it free for you on Orange or T-Mobile (where it's called the G2 Touch).

It's a really nice looking device (I should be getting mine in about a week when I can upgrade) and certainly does pretty much everything the iphone does and a bit more. It's not without it's foibles though, it has an update due out in the next few days which should fix a fair few problems.

    Either way, definitely worth investigating.

Bro has a iphone 3GS, so in comparison, HTC Heros is the closest you will get! In fact the HTC Hero is a billion times better than the iPhone.

I would say HTC Hero or HTC Magic - you can put HTC Hero software on HTC Magic and make them the same, but HTC magic is way cheaper.

I have a Nokia 5800 and have been using it since around April time, it does everything better than the iPhone apart from web browsing, at which it is quite bad at.

for 200 u can get iPhone 3G 8GB used one
  • I have an HTC Touch HD and highly recommend it. I use it day to day to send/receive emails, both pop3 and Gmail. Saves having to lug a pc around and log on. Mine is set to send/receive every 5 mins, so I get emails pretty much as they come in.

Web browsing with the Opera browser is pretty good on 3g or HSDPA. Also the screen size is good for web browsing, and a 5mp camera is relatively good, although no flash. It is convenient having an changeable battery.

With an 8gb card plenty of room for some music and pics.
