Hi
I've been installing some new anti virus software on an elderly relatives PC and noticed that the dial up internet connection was still running when the active internet window was closed. It's been quite a while since I've had dial up, but I'm sure mine would disconnect when you closed Internet Explorer. I've looked at the settings, but can't see anything.(The PC is running Win98).
Does anyone know if there is a setting that can be changed or is that normally part of the ISP software (This PC has a manual setup - no ISP Software)
Many Thanks

Try looking in IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections Tab. What have you got checked? Try checking Never Dial a Connection. I don't see why you expect closing IE to disconnect the dial up connection, just disconnect using the same method used to connect. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Go to:- Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Settings(Of Dialup Connection), Advanced.
Reduce time in 'Disconnect if idle for XX mins' to maybe 5 mins and
Tick box 'Disconnect when connection no longer needed'.
That should sort it!I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0 -

Access to the dialup is by double clicking the big 'e' onthe desktop then clicking connect on the dial up box. The only option currently to disconnect is by right clicking the small icon on the bottom right toolbar (by the clock)- which as it is so small can be easily overlooked/forgotten if you are working in other applications.
Mr Meanie
Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds just what I need.
