You are correct, TheKid, Abbey did offer a 6.5% rate for 12 months, on their Esaver Direct account.

Thanks Pendle_Gazza, do you still have any documentation/marketing showing this?

I trully beleive Abbey has and continues to willfully defraud customers by misrepresenting the interest payble on savings accounts. They seem to be hiding this behind an apparent chaos of conflifting information from their call center and branch staff and importantly, their long one year accrual periods (see my other posts if you are interested).

I just received the check with the final interest on my eSaver account after closing it in August. I closed it over the phone with a chap from the Belfast Banking Center. He assured me that the interest accrual rate on my account was 2.5% (roughly 2% net after inland revenue 20% retention) since my last interest payment in April and that this would be the rate applied at the close of my account.

It is hardly surprising, yet absolutely infuriating, that the check has arrived for 2% gross (1.6% net), rather than the stated 2.5% (2% net).

Incidently I also requested from the Belfast chap to transfer the final interest payment to my linked account rather than by sending me a check. This request was aknowledged and agreed to at the time but cearly completelly ignored.

    Avoid Abbey like the plague

Why would you say that ?

There are loads of reviews showing how good Abbey are, here

    & they seem quite consistent.

ha ha ha ha, I presume this was a joke right?
How many people here have taken the time to complain to the FSA on this? I'm normally extremelly busy but I'm at breaking point and considering it...
