Door step caller
Had an odd visit tonight.
Door bell goes and outside is a SWALEC rep. We do the usual where they ask if I'm Mrs X, and I say I'm not. This flummoxes them for a while as I don't say who I am, we eventually agree that my name is X, I'm just not a Mrs.
He then said that he could cut my electricity bills, at this point I interject saying that I'm not really interested, I do my own checking and I'm happy with where I am and I don't want to switch.
He then says who are you with and I say Scottish Power. This is where it gets odd, he says in that case you have already been switched. I must of looked a little confused as he goes on to say that Scottish Power no longer exist and it's his job to tell me this.
I finished the conversation then by saying that I wasn't interested in dealing with door step callers, but he was quite hostile saying that I had already switched.
Water off a ducks back to me, but there are a few older people where I live and I'm a bit worried he's giving out duff information. Any of you peeps heard about this?
Last bill was Scottish Power and no letters have come through recently.
Google search seems to indicate that they are alive and supplying electric.
Most odd.

Of course SWALEC is actually only a trading name for Scottish & Southern.
lol, you have to love some of those door to door guys for their imaginative selling techniques.0 -
I had one around 6 weeks ago not energy seller but double glazing. He spiel came like this he said do I object to council coming round take photo of my house and let me know of any energy loose. So far so good of course I said yes
Then after that, I started to get suspicious he went on about how old my double glazing was and that it might not be up to standards, its around 4-5 years old, would I be interested in a quote etc
Next time I get someone around flogging and I dont want anyone flogging me anything, I will just say sorry house is rented, and I have no say on what utility or what goes into house as we are moving soon anyway
Then thanks and shut door0 -
It was an interesting sales technique but in a way a bit intimidating.
Glad I had the slathering hound at my side (although she was only slathering as I'd just promised her a game with the tennis ball and he was interupting)
Not quite as good as the phone call where the person was adament he could cut my gas bill. Whatever I paid he could make it cheaper, no problems. He was so rude I played along, how much I paid out monthly etc etc till we got to the point where he asked for my supplier and I said it was the local shop.
We don't have mains gas in our village, only cylinders.......0 -
i would be extremly carefull, im pretty sure the problems i am having with my electric bills at the momment is because i was tricked into giving enough details for the sales person to fill in a form while he was in his car and transfer the supply over to a new company without my knowledge. you might want to check with your current supplier that noone has filled in any forms to transfer you to a new company0

Hi Hatingutilities
I'm fairly sure didn't give enough details for the swop, he didn't even get my proper name. The only details he had, could be found in the phone book.
It's a good point though, I may get in touch with Scottish Power and tell them they no longer exist, they might be interested in that!
I also take a meter reading every week and monitor all bills exactly, I'm very careful with my usage.
I wasn't worried about the gas issue as there is no gas here so there is no way they can change that supplier.0 -
the best way to deal with salesmen is loudly proclaim NO! and then slam the door0

You could, always say you are a tenant and have no say in what supplier you have, if they are pushy just say your moving soon anyhow0

Or to get rid of them you can just say "Oh your from Swalec? have you brought my welcome pack round as I've just switched to you?"
Or "That was quick, I only switched to you lot yesterday"Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
And some dont, how are they to know just an easy way to get rid of them
I never said everyone who is a tenant doesfrugallass wrote: »some tenants DO have a say in who their supplier is though
The best way to deal with DTD salespeople is to say "I'm not interested" and close the door.
They dont always take no for an answer hence why I gave a plausible reason to tell them to go0
