Bulldog - pipex help

OK a few years ago I signed up to Bulldog broadband which was taken over by Pipex.
I want to move to another broadband company maybe o2 but it says I need a BT landline.
I'm not sure what I need to do? Do I cancel Pipex and then get a BT landline and then call o2? seems a bit long winded.
