I wanted to remove this from my computer so I could install McAfee (paid for total cover) McAfee notified me during the download that it was incompatible, and had to be removed. Followed all instructions control panel, add/ remove programs etc. and removed it, rebooted as advised, and can find no trace of AdAware SE anywhere. On resuming download, it seems that McAfee can still detect it on my computer. Got in touch with the McAfee online help, and was told 'nothing we can do, you have to contact Lavasoft to get them to remove it'. I tried that only to be informed that help is only available for paid Ad Aware. There are no phone numbers listed for the free version.
Please, can anyone help me resolve this?

reinstall adaware then use REVO UNINSTALLER to completely remove it
Download REVO UNINSTALLER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW')

I would personally advise against mcafee, but youve clearly already bought it anyways:idea:0 -
Do you know where I can download Ad-Aware SE Personal edition 1.06, as I can't find it on their website. It seems to have been updated to another version. I can find the version I had on cnetdownload.com, but I'm not sure if it's a safe site. Does it have to be the same version?0

cnetdownload.com is safe0

Do I need to download the same version as I had before? worried I'll compound the problem if I download a different version and end up with two lots of 'hidden files' after deletion0

If you are completely certain you have uninstalled Ad-Aware: Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs look for the Ad-Aware software to be certain of an uninstall.
If it isnt there, check your registry: Start, Run, type "regedit", open the folder named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then open SOFTWARE and look for the correct folder.
It will either be called ADAWARE or possibly Lavasoft?
If you find it, delete it but please make sure it is definately the right folder otherwise you may inadvertantly corrupt your registry. Make absolutely sure it is the correct folder!!!!!
Mcafee might just be picking it up in your registry and therefore saying you have it installed when infact you dont.
Good luck.0 -

As a thought, I have got aol as my service provider (yes will be changing when I can!). Could their security stuff be blocking the download ? linked to lavasoft?0
