In theory, that's fine. in practice, it's rather different. Or are you telling me that you have not only read, but are thoroughly conversant with all the small print in every bank account, savings account, loan, credit card, ISA, mortgage, house/car/life/travel insurance, gas/electric/phone account, mobile phone, internet ISP, airline/train/bus ticket, warranties, etc that you have ever bought.

half the time its not even in the small print its flashing like a big red light
I'll take that as a no then :D

The point I was trying to make was to offer helpful advice, rather than a bald 'after the event' blindingly obvious comment.

I can't imagine you would be very happy if having posted a problem/ complaint asking for advice, all you received in return was 'It's your own fault, you should have read the small print'
  • Eh ? Surely they're treating me unfairly simply because I've made a previous bank charge reclaim ? The person I spoke to at Halifax admitted as much.

They are saying they have refunded you once as a gesture of goodwill so they will not immediately refund you the charges so that is slightly different. You have no case with the ombudsman but you can write to the bank with the standard letter and they will acknowledge the case and will pay out or not on the conclusion of the OFT test case. For that amount, I won't even go into the hardship stuff because from the info so far, I very much doubt that you are in financial hardship right now.

  • Thankyou Natweststaffmember and Orford for your advice and support. As you say Orford, most of us are using this site to either advise or be advised, and really don't need someone to be stood on their soapbox. I'm not a child, I'm a 53 year old female apprentice plumber who is quite intelligent and hard working, but happened to make a mistake. Any way, thanks guys.;)
