Halifax Overdraft Fees...

Im Fuming!!!
Just looked at my Halifax Online bank account and i can see a charge for £35. "charged as notified" So looked back through my statement, and i can see no reason for the charge so i called the customer help desk...
Basically what they say has happened is that a cheque cleared from my account the same day that i paid the money in, and since the cheque cleared before the money arrived i went overdrawn.
However, what i see on my online and paper statement is the reverse. I see the money in the account prior to the cheque clearing.

As you can see from the image, according to the online system, at no point did i go overdrawn, yet Halifax are claiming that i did and are charging me 35quid for the pleasure!!
Having shouted at the helpdesk, they say they will only refund for banking errors, and when i pointed out that this was an error with the banks website, they didnt agree...
I am fuming!! how can i trust my online statements if the data they provide is incorrect?? And how can Halifax charge me 35quid for this!!??

i have just got my fees back from halifax, look at my thread "Update. Just got my money back from Halifax".
to cut a longish story short, i too do internet banking and was charged for going overdrawn.
i wrote to them, they replied saying no refund
i wrote to them again to say they had not informed me of the date and amount i would be charged through my chosen method of correspondence (online).
They said "you will have been informed of the fees on the day following the transaction that occured.......... to comply with Banking codes"
I pointed out that they had not informed me and quoted there own letter back to them.
They refunded the money, saying it was a gesture of goodwill. In fact i think they bent their own rules.
Check your online statements, they will say you have gone overdrawn, but they should also have sent you a seperate "notification of fees" by email to you. if it isnt there, write to them and ask why. it may take a while, but stick to your guns.
if they sent you a seperate notification of fees, its a different thing altogether. but always be calm when speaking to the bank, it does make a big difference.
hope this helps.0 -
Hi, Someone out there please advise - I received an email from the Halifax a few days ago informing me that they were charging me £70 in " fees " as 2 direct debits failed as I didn't have enough funds in the account. Last month the DD's were taken out on the 18th, so I made sure I put the amounts in on the 16th.Apparently they came out on 16th this month. As I am in the process of changing dd's to a new Reward account , I have to transfer money from one account to the other until the dd's are transferred. I rang the Halifax, apologised for the mistake (even though it wasn't strictly my fault), and pleaded that this only happened because of the account changeover, and said I thought they were being unfair. She kept me on hold for a while, then said " I believe you claimed a bank charge refund 2 years ago, and you received £95 from us ? Well ,we would've looked upon your call favourably otherwise, but as it is, and you have claimed from us I'm afraid there's nothing we can do for you. " Does anyone think I should take this to the Banking Ombudsman ?:mad:0

Eh ? Surely they're treating me unfairly simply because I've made a previous bank charge reclaim ? The person I spoke to at Halifax admitted as much.0 -

well if people read the small print and were more responsable with money/debt this country wouldnt be in the !!!!0

In theory, that's fine. in practice, it's rather different. Or are you telling me that you have not only read, but are thoroughly conversant with all the small print in every bank account, savings account, loan, credit card, ISA, mortgage, house/car/life/travel insurance, gas/electric/phone account, mobile phone, internet ISP, airline/train/bus ticket, warranties, etc that you have ever bought.0

half the time its not even in the small print its flashing like a big red light0
