  • You should be able to get a form from your dentist (HC1 I think it is) which means you can apply for extra help towards your dental costs - for example, depending on how much money you have (inc. student loan), you may be able to get your dental check ups paid for etc.
It's worth applying just in case.

Not automatically just because you are a student, unfortunately.

However, if you fill in a HC1 form (which are available from chemists, dentist and doctors surgeries, students unions etc.) you may be able to get some help with the cost of the treatment.

You fill in how much you get from your loan, how much your part-time job pays (if you have one), how much your parents give you (if they do), how much rent you pay etc. and the people who it goes to calculate whether you actually need any help towards your dental costs by calculating what you actually need to live compared to how much you have.

Don't expect too much, however. A friend of mine was calculated as having £7 per week spare to live on and was thus given no help with dental costs!

Even having said this, it is still worth applying.

    Good luck.

  • I'm 19 and also get the full student loan, I've been receiving free dental treatment (including getting braces) for the last half a year with the HC2 form.

It's worth applying just in case!

try the NHS website, I'd post a link but I'm not allowed

You get it free upto 19. When you turn 20 you don't.

I got the full loan and my parents earned over the set amounts etc but from filling out the HC1 form I managed to get free dental, prescriptions etc.

Its worth doing the form (which takes a while) to get the free dental checkups and any prescriptions you may need.

Although make sure you do it when you're living away from home, they refused me when I applied over the summer cos I was living with my parents. But during term time I had no problems at all.
