You can use brown or white vinegar. A lot of people prefer the white as it doesn't have the same aroma as the brown stuff. Me, I use the brown as I can get the basics brand for a few pennies & find that the smell doesn't linger anyway.

It's great for limescale anywhere & as skinback mentions is fab for removing scale build up on shower heads.

If I have a particularly hard to shift build up of limescale on taps I soak some toilet tissue in vinegar then mould it round the taps & leave it for a couple of hours. The taps come up beautifully, clean & gleaming like new.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

the hydrocloric acid stuff i was on about does stuff alot quicker so just depends on how much time you got on ue hands im gonna sound like an advert now but u as soon as u add a splash to lime scale you can see it working straight away by fizzing and turning white to get ur taps gleaming it would only take a splash and be ready to wipe off within 5 mins but as i said befor test first or it could tarnish chrome fittings i could be real minging and next time i get a real minging toilet to clean take some before and after pics just to show you how good it is
i do work for a contractor for a local counicl so i no their will be plenty of pooh holes i will be working in
