Overcharged on Credit Card

I have just checked my credit card bill and I have noticed that I have been overcharged by the pub I visited on Saturday.
I bought my wife & I a light lunch and a couple of drinks and I seem to remember that the bill was about £16 (I have since been onto the pubs website and they have theior menu on there so I know exactly how much the food was £11 and I am assuming about £5 for a Cranberry juice & a pint). However when looking at the credit card bill, they have charged me £35.
Now this is partly my fault as I didn't check the chip & pin reader before entering my pin
I have phoned the pub and the young girl I spoke to was quite helpful, but said that I needed to present a receipt. I seem to remember I was only given the CC receipt so this would only show the total anyway.
So I don't really have any proof that I have been overcharged.
Any suggestions as to what I can do?

The CC slip would do, as it does show the TOTAL amount you signed for vs the amount they've charged you.
Also, don't they normally store that sort of information in their tills/computer system?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

I don't have the CC receipt, but if I did it would only show the £35.
They did use a separate card terminal and to be honest I couldn't see the till.
However I suppose there is no harm in phoning the pub and asking to speak to the manager. If they do have one of the computer tills, I know roughly what time I ordered the food and exactly what I ordered so they might be able to trace my order?0 -
We nearly had that with a riverside pub in York. I just thought it was expensive but queried why it didn't seem to match up with the menu and after ages it turned out they'd rang it up twice!0

I just wish I had looked at the card terminal properly before I entered my pin. I just trusted that they put the right price in :-(0

A quick update....Good News!!!
I spoke to the landlady of the pub last night and she couldn't of been more helpful :-)
She was really apologetic and promised to look into this ASAP. Unfortunately the girl that does here accounts is going on holiday this morning for 10 days, but the landlady was going to try and cath her last night with a view to sorting this out. The landlady said that she can check her till and has taken my name & number and promised to get back to me ASAP.
so things are looking up....will keep you posted.
PS. Thanks for the ueful suggestions guys0 -
Just another update to let you know I received the refund without any hassle - very pleased.
It took a while, but that was because the landlady was away on holiday.
A great outcome in the end :-)0 -
Great news rca, bet you'll double check card reader totals in future though!

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Too true, I don't think I'll get done like that again!0

I would keep a very close eye on your cc bills for a few months as well. It's *possible* you've been scammed - there was a trick going around where the person would be handed the machine early, so they (the customer) put their pin number in at the point that the price should have been put in by the shop worker. The shop worker then has your pin, since it's visible on the screen (showing as the amount). They then put your pin in to authorise the transaction and hand you back your card so it looks fine from your end - but now they have your card info and your pin number.Slimming World convert, joined 23rd April 2009
