Orange - what happens if I exceed the 10GB download limit?

I've got the orange broadband starter package with a 10GB download limit, but i have no idea what would happen if I exceeded the limit and i'm terrified I will get charged a fortune for the excess
I've looked at the terms and conditions but it didn't really give me a definite answer, and i've googled it and come up with different answers. Some people say they charge x amount for every GB over the limit, and others say that they would just reduce the speed.
Orange say this: In the event that you exceed your monthly Usage Allowance we may at our discretion suspend Broadband Starter. If your usage continues to exceed your Usage Allowance in one month, we may at our discretion make a charge for additional usage above your Usage Allowance; or terminate Broadband Starter.
But this doesn't make sense to me, because if they suspend my broadband how can I go on to continue exceeding usage?! and if it's all "at their discretion" does this mean they can do whatever they feel like doing to a customer who exceeds the limit? I just wish I knew what would happen!
Has anyone here with Orange broadband exceeded the download limit, and if so, what happened?

We have BT broadband and regularly go over our limit. They email my DH to tell him they will charge so much per Gb over, it actually works out cheaper than going up to the better level of broadband which I find bizarre. I'm sure they'll change that once they realise. I think BT can restrict our broadband is we keep doing it but never had a problem so far and we've been with them for over a year. Can you check t&c's on their website? Do they charge extra for going over your useage, I'd have thought you should have got some info about extra charges when you signed up. I've called Orange about my PAYG mobile and they have usually been very helpful and polite about explaining stuff.0

It means if you go over, they might reduce your speed. If you then go even more over, they will charge you extra, or even stop your broadband completely, to get you onto a different package...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Hi there, I work for Orange and might be able to help.
If you breach our Home Starter fair usage policy, you may be subject to a connection speed reduction, during peak hours (18:00 to 12:00, 7 days a week). This is done as high usage congests the network and heavily affects the performance of our internet service for other broadband users, at peak times.
The speed reduction would be on a temporary basis and we would monitor your usage over the following months. When your usage reduces, the reduction would be lifted. If you breach the fair usage policy a second time you may have the reduction permanently added to your line.
I hope this helps,
Jonathan

Please don't let me post about ISPs over-selling the network, as it's incredibly easy to not only add more capacity to ADSL networks, but also not have such low "caps".0
