    Scum bags? :rotfl:

If it was £400 I might report it, but for £40?

Are you for real?? You would take £40 if someone left it in a cash machine, knowing it doesn't belong to you??

    Theft is theft.

If £40 is nothing to you, then how about you send £40 to the OP?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Actually, although it was a dumb thing to do, we should really be having a go at the dishonest customer who took the £40, knowing it must have been left by the person before them, rather than reporting it to a member of staff.

There are some very dishonest scum bags in the UK.

I would ask them to take a further look at the CCVT, as they must be able to see who used the check out afterwards? Or see them leaving?
You're assuming here, that there was someone behind - wouldn't surprise me if folk hang about waiting for just such things to happen. What would you want them to do if they did check the CCTV? What do you think they 'could' do?

simple option....check the details of the next customer on the POS info or till roll....chances are if they use self scan they are regulars...if they are regulars they will use Tesco/nectar/Sainsburys or whatever points card...customer details are available for card numbers...then get the store to chase customer/involve police to interview someone who may...or may not have taken the money....

alternatively slap self around head with wet fish for being so irresponsible....yes I could easily have done it myself...but I would be angry with myself and put it down to experience...AND I know I wouldnt do it again!

Don't you just love it when people only join for a whinge...then disappear...or sign up to find out something for "a friend"....
    I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:

If somebody is stupid enough to leave money in the mouth of a cash machine then too right i'll take it. If I was right behind them in the queue then I'd tell them they've forgotten their money (as I have done in the past when a woman in front of me left £200 in the machine) but if there is nobody there who am I going to tell?

Would you report the police if you found a fiver on the floor? Or if there was a tenner on the floor in tesco would you take it to the manager? :rotfl:
  • The next customer definitly saved some cash

As for the OP don't get what his gripe is. He asked for the 40 quid then walked off and left it. No different to putting 40 quid somewere then forgetting about it and losing it. Definitly not supermarkets fault and despite the holier than thou attitude shown on here I refuse to believe many wouldnt have taken the cash.

l would have taken the £40.....and handed it in at the customer services desk. I would do the same if I found a tenner on the floor too.

In the supermarket I work in all the self scan "talk" to you and the lady always says that notes are dispensed below the scanner. Many customers do forget to pick up their notes and our hosts are very good at spotting forgotten cash and return it to the till after recording the amount. However if the host is busy helping another customer she/he is unlikely to spot the cash. The next customer may not even realise the previous customer has left their cash behind, they may also get cash back or notes in their change and just pick up the lot, many don't check they have the right amount.
I don't think it's a legal requirement to have a security camera at every till.
If your money was not handed in you are just going to have to put it down to experience and not try to blame anyone else for your error.

Whilst I wholeheartedly sympathise with you, I really don't think you have much hope.
Although the security cameras usually cover the entire store, they cannot cover everywhere at once, and they are there to deter shoplifters NOT to look out for people leaving things behind.
Even if there was security footage of the next customer you cannot expect the store to do anything unless the police tell them to - they certainly couldn't let you have the customer's details. I think that the police would give a very low priority to something which was by your own addmission your own fault.

I think the only (very slim) hope you have is that the store had the volume turned down on the self scanner. Some stores do this and if this is the case you could try to argue that this was a contributory factor in you forgetting your money - they just might be willing to do something.
