LG are a great make - I am not sure if it is still the case but a few years ago, they were making the LCD tvs for most of the established names who rebadged and then sold them at very healthy prices...LG were making their own tvs and putting them on the market at a much more affordable price...same technology made in the same factory but just a different badge on it...I would feel very confident buying this, especially considering the reviews it has managed to receive!

They were certainly making the LCDs themselves (i.e. the flat panel) - not sure about the whole units for others. There are only a handful of panel manufacturers though.

LG kit many moons ago was rubbish stuff (Lucky Goldstar is what it stands for, not Life's Good!) but the Koreans have caught up with the Japanese (i.e. LG & Samsung are superb quality). Hitachi is an established Japanese brand and very good equipment just they don't seem to push their product in Europe quite as much as the bigger boys (Panasonic, Sony, ...)

Your best bet - go into a store and see what a TV looks like. It's horses for courses at the cheaper end of the market, though generally you'll find an LG or Hitachi to be far superior to the likes of Wharfedale, Bush, etc. which are cheapo kit full stop.

Nope. The picture is very good, but the sound is far from rubbish - it's perfectly acceptable on the one I have.

For watching normal television programmes, it is perfectly acceptable IMO. Wouldn't want to listen to much music through it and I have a HT system for films, but mine is fine for me and my lass, neither of us tone deaf :)
