Sky offer - worth fighting for?

Two and a half weeks ago we upgraded our sky package for a month to include the movies and sports as we were on holiday from work.
In the post today we receive a letter from sky thanking us for being loyal customers and offering us 6 months of half price sky sport and movies. So we call up sky to ask about the offer as we want to take the offer. We get told that as we already have a subscription we cannot take the offer. The earliest they will let us cancel is the 1st July. The offer expires on the 30th June. I am so annoyed about that! It is so close and yet so very very far! We asked why on earth we had been sent the letter about the offer to be told that they print there letters so far in advance before posting them that the letter had been written before we even subscribed to the extra channels.
Now I am wondering if this is worth sending a letter in asking them not to be so stupid over a single day! They would be getting money out of us on the offer we would not be spending with them normally as we only wanted is originally to cover our holiday.
Any one with experience of sky say the letter would be a waste of our time an we should just shred the letter or has anyone had any joy with similar cases?
