My old laptop charger use to get hot (the box in the middle of the wire) but I broke the charger, I've just bought a new one but my laptop still won't charge, there is a green light on the end to say theres power but the charger doesn't get hot just wondering if this new one could be faulty.
Any advice on this?

The charger is probably ok. It won't get warm/hot until it is delivering a higher current. Your laptop is not accepting a charge and that is why it is still cold.
Did you get a genuine replacement charger or a universal type? If it is not a genuine type did you check that the voltage, current and polarity is correct?Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
When in use, either charging or powering the laptop it should get warm, maybe even hot.
In your case, as the new 'charger' is not charging the battery it may well be faulty, but then again it may be an issue with the power jack on the laptop itself.
is the laptop working with the 'charger' plugged in ( I guess not)?
Is the replacement charger the correct one for your laptop?
Can you try your new charger on another laptop to prove it is ok?At times any combination of my spelling, grammar or punctuation may be incorrect. Please do not pick me up for this as, after all, it is only an internet forum.0 -
Often leave my on when charging or using laptop near mains, it only get very slightly warm does the dell charger, the laptop on other hand can get warm but not hot0

It is a genuine charger, correct one for my laptop.
Green light comes on the charger but not the charging light on the actual laptop
Laptop won't turn on at all.
I've had a look at the battery and can't even figure out how to take this out if I need to change it.september wins - toshiba laptop, timotei shampoo & conditioner, mccains games, pimms picnic blanket.

so the question now is: is the new power brick faulty, or is the laptop fault?
without any test equipment I would suggest trying another power supply, a friend maybe or a trip to your local pc repair shop.
It is possible, but unlikley, that your new power supply is DOA.At times any combination of my spelling, grammar or punctuation may be incorrect. Please do not pick me up for this as, after all, it is only an internet forum.0 -
Hopefully, you will have bought the new charger locally. I would take it back to the shop and ask them to test it on another machine, and replace it if it is faulty. If it does prove to be faulty, ask them to test the replacement as well. This would save you another trip if there just happened to be a batch of dodgy ones.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

The charger was bought off ebay.
But on a good note
Just found out my neighbour is a techie for HP and has said she will take it to work tomorrow and check it all out for me.

It's not a charger, and shouldn't be treated as one if you want your laptop battery to live for more than 6 months.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Just out of curiousty have you you checked this?
On XP . Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Power Meter Tab.
Under Current Power Source (If the Power Supply is Working) it will say AC Power.
On Vista You should have the battery Icon in the Notifcation Area , when you plug the power supply in , you will notice the a little 2 prong plug appears just slighty over the top and to the left of the battery iconPeter: Hey Lois... what's this word?
