Well that's the way it was in my new build (but I have the backup of a son who's a sparks and who would have sorted any problem out for me).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Rivergreen
The socket that has been activated would be your master socket.
The cost of activating the extension socket is;
£ 115.00 including vat for the visit charge and
£ 70.00 for the work to be completed for the extension socket (per socket)
It is a total of £ 185.00 including vat.
If you would like to place an order for the activation of the extension socket, you can pm me with your account number.
Thanks Helen

Hi
We moved in to a new build and were warned by the builders that some BT/open reach engineers disconect athe other phone sockets in the house because they can charge to connect them as well as your master socket. Fourtunatly ours were ok but another neighbour wasn't, but just got an electrican in to do it. From what they said if the front plate of the master socket is removed you need a special crimp and to connect the wires and bob's your uncle

This is a money saving site and that its a ridiculous charge for connecting one extension socket! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks again for the replies...
I am online at the new place now, and I can confirm it is the master socket that is connected and the others aren't.
Thanks but no thanks to the BT rep, bit too pricey!
I think an electrician may be the best bet to sort it out depending on how easy it is to do it myself. Can anyone point me in the direction of an online guide or similar?0 -

Thanks cajef. I'll have a look at that tomorrow, looks fairly complicated though0 -

It's not complicated. All that you need to do is unscrew one of your extensions and note the colour of the wires connected to terminals 2 & 5 e.g. 2 - Blue with white bands, 5 - White with blue bands or whatever colours they are. Simply connect the same colours at the master socket faceplate. Only these two wires need connecting, job done! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Surely on a new build it's the builder's job to sort this out, as they would with any other snagging? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Not too sure, its a new build but I'm renting it through the housing association, when I called them they said I had to get BT to do it.
The wires in the master socket don't seem to be the same as the extension ones so think I'll have to pay someone to do it
Again....thanks for the help :beer:0
